Charles II of England acquired Mumbai as a gift from the Portuguese when he married Catherine. Basically a group of seven islands, Mumbai was on lease with the East India Company who offered freedom of business and religion to people who decided to settle there. Though the initial population consisted of a handful of Parsi and Gujrati, the population increased considerably fast as people from all across India started to settle in Mumbai.

Mumbai also boast of being home to one of the largest film industries in the world. Mumbai is the Indian counterpart of Hollywood; Bollywood films that are so popular in most part of the world get the name from “Bombay”, erstwhile name for Mumbai.
Mumbai has a lot of historical places to visit including the Gateway of India, ceremonial arch constructed in 1927 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, the Haji Ali Mosque, the 18th century shrine containing the tomb of Hazrath Haji Ali and much more. While these are the traditional tourist spots that most tourists would like to visit, Mumbai is also well known for its nightlife. The whole city is dotted with discs and nightclubs that assure the best of entertainment even if you are all alone in the city.
